SUMMARY

The FoREST (Forest Research Experiences for Students and Teachers) Program targets eight science teachers and sixteen students from middle and high schools of the San Juan Educational Region. The project consists of a summer residential program and a school year follow-up component. The project focus is interdisciplinary, with an emphasis in ecological and environmental research. Participants will conduct research activities in selected Natural Reserves of Puerto Rico. They will attend workshops during the summer, which will prepare them for the research they will carry out and dissemination of their findings. Through this project, teachers will integrate these research experiences into school curricula, resulting in a more dynamic teaching/learning process in their classroom. Students will stress their scientific knowledge and will be motivated to continue science studies.
